On the outskirts of Benátky nad Jizerou, we are designing an expansive single-storey family home. Its main theme is the natural integration of interior and exterior living.
Thanks to the exceptionally large plot, the house not only respects the surrounding landscape—it actively engages with it. The design anticipates future small-scale farming, including orchards, fields, and even small animals.
All living spaces are oriented southwest, providing open views and direct access to the garden. The house is organized into three primary functional zones:
The entrance hall flows seamlessly into a spacious living room with a kitchen. To the south, the space opens via a large glass wall onto a covered terrace with an outdoor summer kitchen—ideal for daily contact with nature and seasonal cooking.
Reserved for the owners, this area includes the master bedroom with a private walk-in closet, a large bathroom, and one children’s room.
Designed primarily for children. Service and utility rooms are located on the northern side. The westernmost tip of the house includes a full-featured home office that also serves as a guest room.
The house features a simple yet thoughtful volume with a gabled roof, enhanced by extended flat roof overhangs that provide natural shading and shelter for outdoor living areas.
The façade combines three key materials:
vertically oriented wooden slats,
rough light-colored plaster,
darker stone cladding.
This combination gives the house a warm, earthy feel and helps it blend naturally into the rural landscape.
The positioning of the house on the plot was carefully considered to optimize daylight and simultaneously respect the potential for future agricultural use of the land.
The house is also designed with future energy solutions in mind, allowing for the integration of solar energy systems.
