Wine Showroom for Zlati Grič Winery: Modern Design in Harmony with Tradition
A spacious wine showroom for Zlati Grič Winery was created within the structure of an originally small building nestled in the vineyards. The goal was to design a space that seamlessly connects modern design with the rich tradition of Slovenian wines.
Located in northeastern Slovenia, in the village of Slovenske Konjice, Zlati Grič Winery boasts over 800 years of winemaking tradition. It cultivates 80 hectares of vineyards, primarily growing white varieties such as Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Riesling.
The vineyards sit at an altitude of around 300 meters above sea level on medium-heavy sandy-clay soils. Combined with the Alpine and Pannonian climate, these conditions contribute to the unique character of the local wines. The winery offers a diverse selection, ranging from fresh and youthful wines to mature and archive-worthy vintages.
The investors’ primary requirement was that the interior’s aesthetics reflect the essence of Zlati Grič wines—exclusive yet natural and authentic. To achieve this, the design embraces minimalism and raw materials, allowing their inherent beauty to stand out. Exposed steel structures, including visible joints, emphasize the industrial character, while green tones throughout the interior evoke the surrounding vineyards, harmonizing the space with the landscape.
The layout prioritizes functionality and visual purity. A dominant green feature seamlessly connects different parts of the showroom, while subtle metal elements add lightness and structure. The shelving system is designed not just for displaying wines but for integrating them into the overall design concept.
A central architectural block was inserted into the large space, maximizing the high ceilings. This allowed for the creation of both practical facilities—such as a kitchenette and bar—and additional levels for seating and private meetings. The reconfiguration of the original structure significantly improved the efficiency of the space.
The block naturally divides the showroom, fostering a more intimate atmosphere while maintaining an airy, open feel.
Upper level: A dedicated seating area for private and business meetings. This section provides a quiet environment for focused discussions while remaining visually connected to the dynamic energy of the main showroom.
Ground floor: A fully equipped kitchen designed for daily operations and catering during special events. The kitchen blends functionality with the showroom’s overall aesthetic.
Bar area: Positioned beneath the television, the bar serves as a flexible space for wine tastings or additional seating, adapting to various needs.
Overall, the design follows a flexible concept, allowing the space to be easily adapted for different functions.
Lighting elements play a crucial role in shaping the showroom’s atmosphere. Indirect LED lighting accentuates architectural lines, while a striking pendant light—its organic form reminiscent of swirling wine—adds a focal point to the space. The result is not just a venue for wine presentation but a modern environment for socializing and immersing in wine culture.
An essential aspect of the overall experience was the collaboration with Voix, a company specializing in audio solutions and smart home integration. The carefully selected sound system enhances the ambiance, enriching the sensory experience of both the space and the wines being tasted.
The showroom achieves an elegant yet informal atmosphere—an ideal setting for wine appreciation. It embodies a modern approach to a traditional craft, combining minimalist design, thoughtful details, and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape. By balancing industrial rawness with natural harmony, the space highlights the exceptional character of Zlati Grič wines.
